Uncommon Heads

A community for leading differently

Who we are

Uncommon Heads is a new peer network for current, former and aspiring headteachers who are neurodivergent.

We exist because:

πŸ‘‰ A growing number of senior leaders in schools are recognising that neurodivergence shapes their daily experience of leadership.

πŸ‘‰ These leaders bring distinctive strengths, insight and creativity to their work.

πŸ‘‰ Schools should be working environments where neurodivergent leaders can thrive.

πŸ‘‰ In reality, school systems and cultures often work against neurodivergent ways of thinking.

πŸ‘‰ Connection, understanding and solidarity with other neurodivergent heads can be the difference between burnout and sustainable leadership.

FAQs

How does it work?

We are a young and growing community, currently working together to shape the most appropriate model of network. This is likely to include a message-based community, alongside a smaller regular discussion group. There will be no expectation to engage in everything - members can take part in ways that suit their energy, capacity and working style.

Who is it for?

We are open to current headteachers, former heads who are still involved with the education sector, and experienced senior leaders who aspire to headship.

As long as you understand yourself to be neurodivergent, you do not need to have a formal assessment or diagnosis to join the network.

The ethos of the network is to be inclusive and supportive, and the criteria are in place to give safety through clarity.

If you are interested but not sure you β€˜qualify’ feel free to get in touch - we’re always open to connecting and hearing from people who are curious.

Who has set this up?

Uncommon Heads has been conceived by Simon Jebreel, a former headteacher and leadership coach with specialist experience in ADHD. You can find out more at simonjebreel.com, or click here to read a blog about his experiences that inspired Uncommon Heads.

How do I get involved?

We want to hear from as many people as possible who are interested in joining the network, finding out more, or lending their support. Please get in touch by emailing hello@uncommonheads.com or filling the form below.
